USC ONE Institute Elevator and HVAC

The ONE Institute, located in a historic district and fronting on West Adams Boulevard, is an internationally recognized LGBTQ archive and study center. The two-story building was constructed in the 1960’s as a fraternity and consists of low-ceiling wings around a central atrium space. There was no mechanical system other than windows units and accessibility to the upper archive level only by stairs. Kaplan Chen Kaplan designed a mechanical system throughout the building with MRV-13 standards for filtration. We also added a new exterior elevator tower connected by a lobby oriented for future expansion. We designed new lighting for the archives, gallery space and central atrium.
