Commercial Adaptive Re-use and Residential Tower, Stanton, California

A large empty retail “big-box” space surrounded by open parking areas will be redeveloped and adaptively re-used as a series of smaller shops with grocery store, recreation facilities and open space to serve the community. A new fifteen story tower with a mix of residential units will rise above the base of shops. The building is centered on the parcel with large setbacks from the surrounding streets. The interwoven parametric design of the facade consisting of balconies and screens providing scale and shade for the individual units while creates an overall ephemeral quality to minimize the building mass. The new residents along with nearby neighbors will help sustain the small commercial area. Adaptive re-use of the large structure into a mix of spaces and uses provides an attractive center of activity for the local community.
